The Story Behind MihiRā
MihiRā takes its name from the Sanskrit word for the Sun — the eternal source of life. It began with something my grandmother told me again and again: that the greatest superpowers we ever witness are right in front of us, in plain sight, every single day — the Sun and Nature itself. That thought stayed with me for years before it became a song.
Sung in Malayalam and Sanskrit, MihiRā is a tribute to the Sun, to Nature, and to every living being that depends on both. When I brought the idea to composer Nandhu Kartha, he connected with it instantly — and that's where the project truly began. Lyricist BK Harinarayanan gave the concept its poetry, and director Shruthi Sharanyam, whose work I had long admired, brought it to life on screen with a vision I couldn't have imagined myself. The project carries the blessing of Bijibal, a mentor who has shaped my music career for years and who launched MihiRā into the world.
What makes MihiRā especially close to my heart is who made it. While the music is composed and written by a man, every performer and creative collaborator behind the sound and the screen is a woman — vocalists, percussionist, bassist, guitarist, violinist, and cellist, drawn from different corners of the world, alongside the video's director, cinematographer, and featured artist. It is, in every sense, a song about strength and life carried forward by women in harmony.
MihiRā is not just a song — it is gratitude, memory, light, and breath, woven into music.
With love,
Team Mihira 🌞
