Rakhi R Nath
Founder | Artistic Director | Teacher
Rakhi R. Nath is the founder and Artistic Director of Sarangi School of Music. A talented playback singer and Carnatic vocalist, Rakhi brings a deep passion for music and years of professional experience to her teaching.
Her musical journey began at the age of 8, and by 12, she gave her Arangetram, marking her formal debut in Carnatic music. She received her training under Guru Sri Chandramana Narayanan Nambootiri, and expanded her musical foundation by studying Hindustani classical music with Ustad Fayaz Khan and Mohan Kumar.
Rakhi gained wide recognition in 2007 through her participation in the popular Indian reality show “Idea Star Singer” on Asianet. She began her playback singing career in 2008 with the film Minnaminnikkottam and went on to lend her voice to films such as Kanakanmani and Loudspeaker.
She has received multiple honors for her vocal talent, including awards from the Mahatma Gandhi University State Youth Festival and the Yesudas Augustine Trophy competition. Her versatility as a musician extends beyond classical traditions —- she is also the lead singer of Saptham, a Bay Area rock fusion band that performs at events across the US.
In 2002, she was also recognized for her performance in Kathakali Sangeetam at the State Youth Festival. Today, her contemporary work can be found on platforms like Spotify and Apple Music.
At Sarangi School of Music, Rakhi is deeply committed to sharing the joy of music, inspiring students, and nurturing their growth as confident and expressive performers.
Rakhi R Nath is a student of Sri Chandramana Narayanan Nambootiri of Perumbavoor, Kerala. She was adjudged Carnatic Music winner at Mahatma Gandhi University State Youth Festival & Yesudas Augustine trophy competition . And have received the best Carnatic vocalist award from Kozhikode Samoodiri in the year 2009 .Apart from Carnatic Music, Rakhi has also won several state-level prizes for Kadhakali Sangeetham. Rakhi further trained on Hindustani music from Ustad Fayaz Khan and Mohan Kumar.
After her arangattom (debut) at the age of 12, Rakhi went on to give numerous Carnatic concerts in India and overseas. She was also a participant of Idea Star Singer 2007 on Asianet television.
Rakhi has sung for Malayalam movies including Minnaminnikkottom (2008), Kaanakanmani (2009), Loud Speaker (2009) and Kerala Cafe (2009) for music directors Bijibal and Shyam Dharman. Have sung more that 100 jingles and voice overs for ads .
She did her Masters Degree in Public Relations & Advertising from
SCMS Business School, Cochin, Kerala.
Apart from training students, Rakhi performs contemporary Carnatic fusions and releases them on YouTube and other social media platforms. She is also the lead singer of her band ” Saptham” which has given many performances in the Bay Area & other states of US.

Founded in 2017 by Rakhi R. Nath in Dublin, California, Sarangi School of Music is dedicated to teaching Carnatic music to students of all ages and skill levels. Rooted in tradition and guided by passion, our mission is to inspire a lifelong love for classical music while nurturing each student’s unique musical journey.
Over the years, our students have actively participated in a variety of cultural events and competitions throughout the Bay Area, earning recognition and awards for their talent and dedication. In 2024, our students had the incredible honor of performing two concerts at the prestigious Guruvayoor Temple in Kerala, India — on the stages of both the Melpathur Auditorium and the Guruvayurappan Auditorium.
At Sarangi, we believe music is more than just an art form — it’s a path to expression, discipline, and joy. We’re proud to create a supportive learning environment where students grow in both skill and confidence.
