About the Guru

Rakhi R. Nath is the Founder and Artistic Director of Sarangi School of Music. An accomplished Carnatic vocalist and playback singer, she is dedicated to preserving the rich tradition of Indian classical music while inspiring the next generation of musicians.

Rakhi began her musical journey at the age of eight and gave her Carnatic Arangetram at the age of twelve under the guidance of Guru Sri Chandramana Narayanan Nambootiri. She further broadened her musical expertise by studying Hindustani classical music under Ustad Fayaz Khan and Sri Mohan Kumar.

She rose to prominence in 2007 as a contestant on the popular television reality show Idea Star Singer on Asianet. In 2008, she made her playback singing debut in the Malayalam film Minnaminnikkottam and has since lent her voice to films including Kanakanmani and Loudspeaker.

Rakhi has received numerous accolades for her musical excellence, including awards at the Mahatma Gandhi University State Youth Festival and the prestigious Yesudas Augustine Trophy competition. In 2002, she was also recognized at the Kerala State Youth Festival for her outstanding performance in Kathakali Sangeetham.

A versatile performer, Rakhi is also the lead vocalist of Saptham, a Bay Area rock fusion band that performs across the United States. Her original music is available on leading streaming platforms such as Spotify and Apple Music.

She holds a Master’s Degree in Public Relations and Advertising from SCMS Business School, Kochi, Kerala. In 2026, Rakhi received international recognition at the Global Music Awards for her original album Mihira, winning Best Female Vocalist and Best Music Album, honoring her excellence as both a vocalist and recording artist on the global stage.
